Vella and Kate are suspicious about Alison

I stood quietly behind the door of the sitting room, my ear pressed against the wood as I listened in on the conversation between Kate and Vella. I had been serving as Kate's personal maid for several weeks now, and though I had successfully kept my true identity a secret, it seemed that my behavior had not gone unnoticed.

"I just can't shake the feeling that there's something off about that maid," Vella said, her voice hushed but still carrying through the room. "She's always lurking about, listening in on our conversations."

"I know what you mean," Kate replied, her tone just as low. "But Evan seems to trust her implicitly. He's always singing her praises, saying how efficient and capable she is."

I felt a sense of relief at Evan's endorsement, but I knew that I couldn't let my guard down just yet. I had come too far to let my true intentions be discovered now.
