Stephen looked around the room and sighed. Then he looked at the woman who was lying lifelessly on the bed.

He walked toward the couch, avoiding the scattered things. He kneeled down in front of her and brushed away some hairs from her face. She looked pale and sick. There were dark circles below her eyes. Tears had dried away and left marks over her cheeks.

He sat next to her and held her hand hesitatingly. It was cold, lifeless and lacking energy. It felt dead and the thought itself was terrifying like the last time. Yes, he was scared last time as well, though he didn't know it was her who was injured. That's what the mate bond does. He bent his head and kissed the back of her palm unknowingly.

They were right. It was his fault. He did all this to her. He was really an asshole toward her. He still remembers the innocent and happy smile she gave him the next morning after that night. He didn't take a moment to snatch that smile away from her.

He sighed again while closing his eyes,
