Lillian's POV

He gazed at me, his smile erasing the pain he had caused.

It's a profound irony when the very person who inflicted the pain becomes the only one capable of mending the ache within.

That no matter how many times he let me down, I find myself drawn back to him.

My movements ceased, and laughter faded away.

His eyes locked with mine, my heart racing.

We stood face to face, the chilly breeze caressing my skin as the sound of waves saved us from an engulfing silence.

"Are you okay?" he asked suddenly.

I smiled and nodded, refusing to voice the question that haunted my mind, fearing his response.

I don't know.

"Yeah," I replied, offering him a smile.

I sat on the sand, gazing up at the radiant moon.

He joined me, and I turned my head toward him.

"Can we stay a little longer?" I asked.

Marcus studied my face intently before nodding.
