Our hands are clasped as we enter inside their huge house. As soon as we step on the marble floor, we look at each other. My grip on his hand tightens, getting courage from it. We are immediately approached and greeted by a beautiful woman with a huge smile on her face.

“You’re late as usual!” her bright opening remark.

“Happy birthday, Mom,” greets Devyn. He gives his mother a soft kiss on the cheek.

His mother looks even more beautiful in person. She’s wearing a simple red dress with a long slit on the side. I give them a moment as they hug each other for a few seconds. And then her mother finally turns to look at me. She breaks into a friendly smile.

“You must be Betsy,” she brightly says. “Devyn has told me so much about you.”

I flush, feeling embarrassed and warm at the same time. “Er… Hi! Happy birthday, ma’am.”
