'Now let's see, Lyanna, how you will be able to refuse me again after I play hero again tomorrow.' I mutter to myself, a creepy smirk crawling up my lips.

It is infuriating how after all the previous schemes, she has still not agreed to marry me. I can not pour out this much effort, and she would be rendering my efforts useless.

I have been posing as her best friend, drawing her closer, trying to be the one she turned to in times of need. It is a delicate dance of deception and manipulation, and I am growing weary of it.

But now, this was my chance– a very good chance to make her see me as a hero.

The next day in school, Lyanna comes crying to me about her abducted Dad and I take her outside class, away from the rest of our schoolmates. As we sit under the old oak tree during lunch, her eyes are red rimmed from crying.

I laugh inside, already knowing why she was crying without being told. Her poor, poor, dad had been kidnapped and hidden away...
