Chapter Fourteen

Fagua

I had the feeling I embarrassed myself by admitting to Winter I wanted him. It’d been the first time we’d had a conversation, and here I was declaring he could take me.

Except I wasn’t teasing him. I meant every word, and I’d been plucking up the courage to tell him I wanted to stay with him. Not his brothers, but him.

“Are you ready to watch the movie?” He sat down next to me with a big bowl of popcorn he’d made. I felt as if I were in the movie theatre for the first time. He’d also brought a little wine to make me feel relaxed, but I didn’t need the wine. I’d already drank some earlier, and I wasn’t much of a drinker. Back home, we only had it on special occasions. It felt silly to say that to him, after all I was twenty-five, dressed like a lady, and I wanted him to see me as one, not the naive country bumpkin hiding inside of me right now.

“What is it?”

I shook my head, as I lied about the idea of this being something I was used to doing.
