Chapter Twenty-Nine

Sky

“It is so good to be home,” I stretched out on the pool float with a beer in one hand and my shades in place.

“Don’t let it go to your head,” Winter chided from the patio door. “It’s your turn to do all the dishes after dinner.”

I waved him off as Fagua slid into the pool wearing a red bikini. I tried not to stare at her. She and Winter had made up. Listening to them have sex last night was nearly too much for me. Husk had stormed out being his usual stubborn self and hadn’t returned all day. He’d probably slink back in when dinner was ready in an hour or so.

“By the way,” I said, lowering my sunglasses as she swam over to me, “I don’t think I ever thanked you for healing me. Without you, I would’ve died.”

“I was happy to help. And you saved me, too. I’d still be stuck at home with my Pa if not for you.” She tilted her head to the side and gave me a teasing smile. “So when do you think your powers will come back?”

“Not sure.” I was still weaker than I’d liked from my hospital stay
