Chapter 03

STAR'S POV

The dungeon bar was creaked open by the sentinel who stood watch over it.

“Greetings my lord.” The sentinel bowed, much lower than I'd have ever wanted from anyone. It pissed me so much that I wanted to strangle the life out of him. I tapped my hands against each other in a slow beat, waiting for the alpha to speak.

Alpha Farrell nodded his head in response and signalled him to leave.

“And… has she had anything to eat?” He asked, calling him back before he could march the stairs. I scoffed. When did he suddenly care if I had eaten or not?

“Yes, my lord,” he answered. "Sir Edric had the servants bring her rabbit stew about an hour ago.”

“Very well, you may leave.”

As Alpha Farrell walked in, I jolted and cringed into the wall. Inside, I was a bit more surprised he came in his human form. The last I laid my eyes on him, he was a beast and squashed the neck of a man a tad and looked satisfied doing it.

My breath quickened as he came closer to me. I wrapped my hands into a fist like they would be of any use if he deserves to hurt me.

“I'm not here to hurt you, ok?” He assured me plunging forward with his hands swinging softly like he was calming a wild dog. He stared right into my eyes and that helped calm my fears.

I could see a glint in his eyes, one that wasn't there the last time he came to me.

For a moment, he was surprised at how beautiful I was. The last time he saw me I looked like I was picked from the mud.

His gaze spoke words he wouldn't speak and I was able to detect that from the way his eyes hovered all over me. My heart was still laced with fear but could never be compared to when he walked in.

My steely grey eyes popped and were as innocent as a kitten.

“Stay away from me, you murderer.” I made a feint and ran past him, my blonde hair swinging in waves as I moved. I couldn't understand what suddenly came over me that made me speak harshly to him.

Perhaps it was the feeling that he could still do anything he wanted to do against me if he wanted to.

The dungeon metals clanged as I yanked on them. I wanted a way out from there, a way out from him but Farrell locked them and had the keys in his cloak. My eyes popped in fear that was slowly overwhelming me.

“You are supposed to be the Luna of your pack,” he blurted out in a harsh and rather unfriendly manner. I was shocked, wondering how he came to know I was meant to be a Luna. Is he some kind of seer?

"The wife of one of the late most influential Alphas in the whole of the werewolf world but instead, you lived your royal days in a castle called a dungeon.”

Those words speared so deep in me, I turned to face him and shrunk on the edge of the bars, holding it tightly like my entire existence depended on it.

“Yes, I was supposed to.” I bit hard on her lower lip and shifted her gaze to the ground in regret laced with fear. I couldn't find the right words to give in response to his words.

“What happened?” Alpha Farrell asked in a cool and reassuring voice, raising a brow to me. The glint was still in his eyes.

“It's none of your business.” I snapped at him in a voice slightly above a whisper.

“You can tell me, I'm here to listen to you…"

He tried coming close to me but I sprung up briskly and flinched to the edge of the other side of the wall. "He is going to hurt you," those were the words that rang in my head with every step he took.

From the little I've heard about him, he enjoyed being feared but right now, the look in his eyes was that of one who desperately wished to trade that fear he carried along with him with something else less fearful.

He hated seeing the terror in my eyes anytime he took a step closer to me.

"Why do you want to know? So you could butcher me as you did to them. I do not have not even the slightest intention of speaking to you.” As soon as I uttered those words, my eyes brimmed and my breath escaped noisily from my nostrils.

My eyes were continuously on him as I couldn't afford to take any chance with him lurking in front of me.

For a moment, it seemed like the right thing for him to walk up to me, gather me in his arms and then pat my back but if he did that, I definitely would Burst from inside out of fear. He decided against that and I was glad he did.

“They killed my wife and son, my only child…” he was still speaking when I cut him off abruptly. He swallowed hard and remained mute.

"You know, I prayed to the Moon goddess,” I began and then paused a while to see his reaction. When there was none, I went on.

“I prayed to her on a warm, sunny afternoon, not on the night of a full moon, for a miracle. A miracle that would rescue me that night, and she sent you, my mate. Isn't it a coincidence?”

“What do you mean?” he asked with a confused grimace laced to his brows. His pupils dilated as he tried to understand what I was talking about.

“My cruel husband who doesn't want me, killed your wife, and then you killed him and now we’re supposed to be mates? It all doesn't make sense, does it?" I scoffed, raising my eyes to him and then allowing it to rest on my toes. I fiddled with my hands with insecurity, not sure of what he could do to me.

I brushed my golden strands of hair with my fingers and patted my lips, revealing my white teeth that did justice in complementing her skin tone.

“Believe me when I tell you I dreaded the match at first, but the moon goddess initiated this.” he went on to say to me with a kind of look that gave me goosebumps.

There was silence between us as I pondered on what I was about to say next.

I didn't know how best to put it but I had to say it anyway.  I developed a sudden headache that threatened to split my head into two.

“Please just kill me,” I blurted the words all in one breath and then paused…

I picked up again and this time with enviable agility.. "I know you're good at killing people, so do it. Kill me.” I yelped at the touch of my voice. He was dumbfounded

“Why?” he found himself asking with a burrow of a frown that made him look older than he was.

A cascade of confusion flowed through him. He counted a few steps back from me, hoping to dissipate the tension in me but that did nothing but aggravate the situation. I grew tenser, my heart thumping Viciously against my chest.

“I don’t want you as my mate,”  I hurled the words at him and darted towards him. “This is a mismatch. I am weak and wolfless, no king or kingdom will ever want a weak wolfless Luna like me and the moon goddess can never pair me with someone as crazy as you, so kill me.”

I threw my weight on him, continuously hitting his thick chest with my balled fragile fists. Although it yielded no effect, I continued to hit harder, gasping for air that was alluding to my lungs.

He restrained and held my quaking body. He cradled me against his arms, protecting me from the storm of emotions that raged inside of me.

I stopped hitting, as tears began to well in my eyes.  The only sound that could be heard from me was my sharp intake of breath. He felt the heave of my chest against his body and somehow, I became calm. I could feel his hand Patting my back like a mother would do to her child.

He lifted my chin with his hands for me to look at him, such that my retina was directly fixed on his.

He wiped the stream of moisture on my face and bent to kiss me, but I slapped him and pushed him away. I was in shock and the audacity he had was something I could never understand.

It was just so bizarre. I gasped for breath and at the same time, a fog of bewilderment shadowed him. "How could you?" I heard him whisper under his breath.

“You must be a fool for trying to kiss me.” I cursed in a spiteful voice.

“Guards!! Guards!!!” Fury raged in his flamy eyes.

He slipped the key from his cloak pocket and unlocked the bars. Two sentinels zoomed in.

“Chain her and send her to the spare room. He commanded. " Let's see how she’s able to survive there.” he rolled out the orders just as I had expected him to do.
