The Princess and the Frog

Tiana was born on a wild stormy night late in December, the palace was lit up in all its Christmas glory as the wind howled and the rain battered against the thick stone walls. Her Mother was exhausted and very disappointed to have birthed another girl, she already had three daughters all of them grown and married off. To have been saddled with yet another girl child so late in her life after praying and begging the Gods for a Son left the woman weak and sick. The Queen never recovered from her birth and four months after her birth she succumbed to her disappointment and passed from the realm of the living. Her Father the King was distraught and banished his tiny youngest daughter to live with servants in a cottage at the very boundary of the palace lands. It was not a bad place to live, they cared for her well enough, she was fed and had her own room but it wasn’t the luxury a Princess should live in, the kind of life her sisters had at the Palace.
