Bella's POV

I stood there frozen, my heart pounding in my chest as I eavesdropped on Michael's father's angry words. The revelation hit me like a thunderbolt. I always suspected a connection to the nurse's death, but hearing it right now, confirmed in such a dramatic manner, that left me shaken to the core.

I pressed my ear closer to the door, desperate to hear more of the conversation.

"You're being unreasonable," a woman's voice responded. "The girl was young and we don't even know if it had nothing to do with what happened to your late wife. Blaming the poor girl won't bring her back."

"Lies! If not for the birth of that girl, my wife would still be alive!" He roared.

"So you regret remarrying me then?" She retorted and I could feel the anger in her voice.
