I felt defeated right now. Seeing Leilani’s limp body like this, I felt like I haven’t been protecting her as a mate should. If I had been, I would have been able to protect her before she ended up like this.

Turning her hand in mine, I was just about to place my other hand on her palm, when I noticed something that hadn’t been there before. Across the center of her palm, there was a burn mark. Straightening my back, I moved to lift her other hand.

She had the same mark on her other hand. I called the warriors back in, needing to find out if something happened to her in the time I was gone. When neither of them knew where the burn marks came from, I wondered if it was the witch that did this to her.

Lifting her in my arms, I carried her downstairs, back to my office. I didn’t figure Tate nor Brook would be here, but I didn’t expect them to both come running in as soon as I placed Leilani on the couch.
