Chapter 14 The Distance

It was seven pm when I got home. Ally was reading a book with her leg straight on the table in the living room. I'm a little nervous about how she's going to react.

I didn't come home last night.

I went straight to the bedroom, took a bath, then changed. After everything I've heard from Billy, I don't feel hungry, which is devastating to our situation. How is this fucking life so messed up?

Ally followed me, uneasy, startled as she spoke. "Have you eaten? There is still food. Just need to reheat." Her voice was formal without glancing at me as she lay on the bed.

"It's fine. I'm full, thank you for asking. How about you?" I'm trying to cool down the awkwardness. She didn't even look at me and just nodded, cold and treating me formally.

I went down to chill outside. I was confused, puzzled, and messed up with everything that happened. I took a cigarette, lighted up, and then smoked, emitting like releasing the loads in my heart, hoping to alleviate the tension.
