Chapter Twenty-One

“I want my name off the list.” I told the girl with the kinky afro. Her eyes sized me up before she blew her gum and loudly popped it.

“You are supposed to come at lunch break not morning, mornings are for the organizers’ meetings.” The hall only had about four people in it if I was excluded. Two were doing splits at the far end and the other two were sitting before me looking uninterested.

“Well I’m here now. Might as well just do it.”

She gave me a dirty look before she switched on the Tab on her desk and did some annoying clicking with her long fingernails. Her partner beside her was painting hers a neon sky blue. I glanced at the name tags on the desk and the black girl’s name was Britney. Her partner’s name was Joy.

“Your name is not on the list.” The gum girl said. I could see her pink gum move in all directions in her open mouth.

“I signed up yesterday, check again.” I told her.

“Your name is not under any of the main character’s, Hermione.” Britney said before rolling her
