Her room was dimly lit so it was hard to make out the face of whoever was trying to break in. Either way, Emery’s first reaction was to unsheath the dagger hidden underneath her dress. Staying close to the wall without making any sound, she tightened her grip on her weapon as the intruder entered her room. She waited for the right time to strike, paying close attention to the sound of the intruder’s footsteps. When she noticed that his footsteps were closer, she immediately swung her hand in his direction but was caught off guard when her wrist was gripped by him.
