"I never finished it," she sighed, lowering her eyes toward her lap.

"The publisher gave me this copy. It's supposed to be a sequel to the original, so they thought I'd like it. Maybe one day." she trailed off.

"What does it tell you?" Sophie asked curiously.

"It tells me that the love between my Angel and my Max is stronger than ever before," she explained.

"Max loves her deeply. He believes that he will spend the rest of his life devoted to her. It would be perfect, except…"

"Except what?" Max urged, unable to resist wanting to know exactly what made her unhappy.

"Except," she began, staring up at the ceiling, "that my Max is already engaged."

Max raised his brows in surprise.

"Already engaged? Like, you're married already?"

"Yes, he proposed last week," she confirmed, glancing at Sophie briefly before returning her attention to Max.

"He's not the type to wait for an engagement ring. In fact, he wants to marry me as soon as possible."
