LXXXIX

Isaac POV

It took a concerted effort to pull my eyes away from my mate's retreating figure. The way she took off like a bat out of hell, I wanted to chase after her to find out just what was on her mind. But, I had minimal time. My focus settled on the werebear in the corner. I was abundantly thankful Maise had been agreeable for once in her life and left us willingly. I was not going to be kind to this bear.

I slung back the remainder of my scotch and slowly stood. Bram was close behind. He was my right hand man in interrogations, and not because of his ability to tell if the information they were giving us was factual.

I slipped into the chair across from Benate. I could feel the jitters coursing through his nerves - he knew our reasons for summoning him were not good. He never tore his eyes from his hands, never acknowledged our presence, but swallowed hard when he realized he was the center of attention.

His reaction to no question was all I needed to know. He had secrets.

Reminder to y'all that I do my best to update 5 chapters a week. Ideally, over 4-5 days, but sometimes all at once. Thank you all for committing to this story! It is so fun to write! (I am also working on Wulver #3 in the background, which I know y'all are super excited for.)
