142: Torn Apart

The air crackled with tension as I stepped into my father's mansion. I held my breath as I looked around for Papa, expecting him to greet me at the door, but there was no sign of him. Instead, I heard the sound of a raised voice coming from the sitting room. I immediately recognised it as Papa's. I had never heard him spit such fire from his mouth in my entire life.

I walked down the hallway, my heart racing, and peered around the doorframe. Papa was standing in the middle of the room, his face red with anger. I had expected his anger, but the storm that awaited me was far fiercer than what I had anticipated. Papa's face, usually composed and stern, was contorted with a mixture of fury and disappointment.

"How could she have disappeared without a trace?"

He was barking at some men in uniform, whom I noted to be some security agents. He must have sent them out to look for me or something. They all stood motionless while Father paced and raved.

"I pay you to do your job, Mr. W
