Dahlia POV.

“Can you hear that?” Celeste asks me, and I move closer to the opened bookcase and listen when I hear a whimper.

“Someone is down there and they are injured.” I say out loud and move forward when Malachi grabs my upper arm and shakes his head no.

“I will go. You wait up here.” He says, and I shake my head.

“No, I’m going with you.” I protest. Whatever is down there, we can help.

“Ok love birds, we all go,” Voltas says and we all walk cautiously in to the dark, damp tunnel. The smell of mould, mildew, and blood is stronger the further we go.

“I don’t like this,” Verity says from behind us and I smirk. So much for being a scary vampire. I thought they weren’t scared of anything. Guess everyone has their own fears.

The whimpering becomes louder the closer we move. A door is up ahead.

“Be ready, whatever is behind that door. I’ve got a gut feeling it is not going to be pleasant.” I tell them all and I gulp, fighting the urge to vomit. Pushing the door open. The stench of body
