“In the end it wouldn’t have done me any good to go barging in there. Honestly, thinking of how I had to keep Sammy and Marco safe was the only thing that had kept me in my seat.” She said, sighing as she cradled her coffee mug in both hands.
“I just don’t get how you do it. The man never did anything to me and I could barely control myself. I don’t get how you do it…” Kane whispered.
“It’s not like I have much choice…” She whispered. “I’m no good to them if I’m in jail.”
“Bridgette, I’m a little worried… What if someone finds out and makes them stop the investigation?” Kane asked.
“Honestly?” She asked, turning to face him.
“Yes. We both know that there’s a chance that could happen.” Kane w
I was wrong. I'm sorry don't hold it against me. I never have a set plan for my books. It just starts with an idea. Anyway It's coming up! I promise!
“That wasn’t even the youngest I have seen in Bernard’s cells.” “How young were they?” Kane asked, not really sure that he would like the answer. “They were young. I think the youngest was seven… But that was about four or five years ago, so she would be old enough to participate in Bernard’s auctions or go to work at The Pleasure Palace.” “Are you saying that he sent a little kid to work at a whore house?” Kane demanded. “Not a whore house. The girls that work there are picked by the clients that frequent the place. In a whore house you provide sex and companionship or whatever it is that your client wants. At The Pleasure Palace, you provide babies.” She whispered. “At least in a whore house you have some semblance of control.”
Four more vehicles pulled up and people began filing out. Some were from Aiden’s group. Others were from the club and sent to help with triage and treating the wounded. Brigette sighed and began giving directions to get everyone down there as fast as they could.A terrified young woman sat towards the back of the van with Spencer’s head in her lap. Her hands were bloody and some blood trickled down from a cut on her head. Brigette stepped forward and took a look at Spencer’s pale face.“My name is Bridgette and this is a safe place. I’m going to have someone move Spencer from your lap and then we can get you out of the van and cleaned up.” Bridgette said softly.“Where are we and what are we doing here?” She asked, looking up at Bridgette with terrifi
It had been a few days since Spencer and the others had arrived. Jess and a few of the others that had arrived to help treat the injured were coming by to assist with keeping them comfortable and medicated until they could get up and move around freely. Most of them had packed up and left for the day however, Bridgette was now staring at a fuming Jess. The older woman’s arms were crossed over her chest as she stood there staring at the young woman that she had watched grow up. Her eyes were glaring daggers at her but at the same time Bridgette knew that she wasn’t really mad at her. She was mad that she had been alive this whole time and been allowed to believe that she was dead. Machine would be getting an earful later, she thought as she took in her appearance.“It really is you?” She whispered tearfully.
Jess sighed but agreed that the best thing that they could do now was to wait and let her adjust a bit more to her current situation. She sighed and sipped from the coffee cup. She stared at the dark liquid for a moment before turning her eyes on the young woman in front of her. “So what exactly are we going to do?” She asked. “We aren’t going to do anything. You’re going to help get these men well and then pretend like you don’t know I exist. It’s what’s best for your safety.” Bridgette whispered. “And if I can’t?” She asked, raising a brow. “You’re going to have to. If Bernard finds out that I am back or someone that knows him gets wind of this then I will end up in his cells again. I can’t go back and I have to protect Sammy and Marco
“Shut up!” Bernard screamed at the crying women. “Just shut the fuck up!”The two women huddled against the wall held their hands to their mouths to muffle their screams of horror. Wide teary eyes watched as he beat the woman until her face was bloody and she was unconscious. Her breathing was labored as she laid there with blood pooling around her.“I may have overdone it.” Bernard grunted. “Abigail, you can come in.”“That was a little bit brutal don’t you think?” She asked, opening the door and looking at the girl still lying on the ground.“Are you satisfied with her punishment?” Bernard asked.“Very. I actually hop
Bridgette sighed and leaned against the railing as she thought about how crowded her place had suddenly become. The cold air blew across her skin reminding her that she hadn’t worn a jacket or shoes. She closed her eyes, savoring the quiet as the wind whipped her hair around. She didn’t mind the chill or the numbness in her appendages. Her mind was elsewhere as she stared out at the early morning sky.“Bridgette….” Kane sighed, opening the door with a fresh cup of steaming coffee in his hands. “What are you doing out here in the cold?”Bridgette didn’t turn to look at him as he watched her worriedly. She took a deep breath of air and sighed, watching the warm air float out on the early morning breeze. She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and nibbled on her bottom lip.
“Bridgette, you need to stop and think about this!” Kane yelled, following her through the house.“There’s nothing to think about.” She said with a stoney face as she made her way down to the bunker.“Why won’t you stop and listen to me?” He argued.“Because you’re just going to try and talk me out of this and there’s nothing you can say to change my mind.” She said, starting up the computers.“Goddammit! I don’t want to lose you! I can’t go through that again!” He yelled.“You’re not going to lose me, but you are going to have to trust me!” She said, turning to face him teary eyes. &
“Jess, I need you and Machine to take the kids and keep them safe.” Bridgette sighed.“I thought that they were safe here.” Machine frowned.“They were.” Kane said, still mad that she had put herself in danger again.“What happened?” Jess asked.“That bastard managed to get to an informant and his family. Long story short, their dead and they were under federal guard.” Bridgette sighed.“But what does that have to do with the kids?” Machine asked.“It means that if he can get to them while they’re under federal protection then he can get to me and it won't
