With a confident nod, she assured, “Alpha, you can count on me – no slip-ups.”

“Good.”

He stood up, placing the first aid box on the coffee table before the couch. Heading to his bed, he switched off the light, indirectly signaling her to sleep.

She gazed at him for a while, then proceeded to the bathroom to change into her nightgown. While changing, she glanced in the mirror, attempting to see her back. The sight that met her eyes was unbelievable. A black birthmark had been present on her lower back since birth, but it had vanished.

An astonished whisper escaped her lips, “It’s really gone.” Tears welled up but were quickly brushed away with a triumphant smile. “No more ‘cursed wolf,’ no more mark to hide.”

She repeated these affirmations as a few flashbacks resurfaced in her mind.

“Kill her; she is cursed.”

“Look at her torn clothes. No, look at her birthmark. She’s ugly.”

“A black mark, the cursed mark!”

She softly chanted, warding them off, her hands over her ears, “Stop it.”
