“He has congenital heart disease.” The doctor says and my face twists in confusion.
“What does that mean?” My mother and I ask at the same time.
“You have a hole in your heart, Quincy.” The doctor words echos in my ears.
..............
I have a hole in my heart? Is that even possible?
“How am I alive?” I ask him and he breathes out a sigh.
“You must have had surgery when you were young.” The doctor says as he looks at my mother. “It would been better if both parents were here.”
“I don’t remember having any form of surgery in my entire life.” I say to him and he smiles supportin
“This is a delicate situation and Quincy has not been taking medication since he was a child. So the risks are higher.” The doctor words causes goosebumps to erupt on my skin.“If another seizure occurs, he might die.” His words echos in my ears.He then walks towards the door, opens it and steps out of the room, leaving the door open. .............“That was not very professional.” My mom says out loud. “He left the door wide open.”“Aren’t you more concerned that I could die if I have a seizure again, and it could happen any minute?” I ask her and she inhales sharply.I’m not going to lie, I am very scared. This all feels very surreal
“Oh my god, doctor!” I hear my father yell, but I can’t see him. Everything and every sound is fading away.I can now only hear the hospital machine giving off an alarm.“He’s going into shock.” I hear a man’s voice and then I black out, straight into the arms of darkness...............“We can’t keep him here.” I hear a voice and my eyes flutter open.My head hurts so bad, and I feel drunk.“Where would you take him then?” I hear another voice, this one is a female.“The hospital is clearly not fit enough to take care of him.” I hear a third voice, this one I know. It’s my fat
“I don’t really know.” She says and I squint my eyes at her. “I’m going for a wedding.” She says.“Oh, that’s great. Whose?” I ask her, not knowing that what she’s about to say is going to break my heart even though I have not even given it to her yet.“Mine.” She says as she avoids eye contact with me. “I’m getting married tomorrow.” .............I must have heard that wrong.I chuckle and she looks at me with a serious face.“You’re joking, right?” I ask her and she shakes her head.“I’m not, and you should take it seriously.” She says, an
“You’re asking me to leave because I care for my son?” Her voice is getting louder with each word.Oh, boy.“Our son.” My father replies, emphasizing on each word.I can tell that he is on his last nerve and he might snap at any moment...............“Look, Jane. You don’t just get to walk right back into our lives like nothing happened.” He says as he sits down back on the couch.“I didn’t have a choice.” She says and he laughs.“Don’t feed me that bull crap, Jane. You had more than a choice, you literally left us to have an affair.”
“You’re sick, Sam.” She says.A knock on the door startles us and Dr. Nelson opens it and walks in.“I have excellent news, all the tests came back and they are looking good. Quincy will be discharged tomorrow.” He says cheerfully, but it looks like my parents are going to chew him raw..................“What?” My father asks loudly.“Are you hearing yourself?” My mother joins in.“You can’t just discharge someone that almost died a day ago.” My mother points out.And she is making a good point. My last doctor said a lot of serious things. But who am I to defy the tests of this new hospital. This one is bigger, more equipped
A few spam emails pops up, and then I see what I’m looking for. An email from her.I open it as fast as my movements can allow me to, and I first see greetings and questions about how I’m doing. But then I see something that makes my mouth drop in awe.“What the hell?” I say to myself slowly..................Is Davina joking? She has to be, because this can’t be real. The part of the email that shocks me reads:“Quincy, I have something important that I need you to do for me. This is something I need done as soon as possible, and I trust no one else but you.
“Quincy, let me call you back later, okay? Today is my wedding day and I’m so busy.” She says and though I am shocked that today is her wedding day, I respond casually.“Sure, I will be waiting for your call. And oh, congratulations!” I say but she doesn’t reply. She just simply ends the call.............It’s the next day and I have showered and I have gotten ready to leave the hospital. All the necessary paperworks are signed and I have collected all my medications.I have a few warnings from my doctor, but they all total to me being more careful and healthy.I’m now sitting downstairs, still in the hospital, waiting for my father to pick me up.
When we reach the elevator, it takes a few seconds before it opens. And when it does, who we see makes me to almost lose my breath. It’s Daniel Sims. He’s standing in the elevator with his hands in his pockets, just staring and smiling at us cynically..............“What the hell are you doing here?” My father launches towards him and holds him up against the elevator wall. He lifts his hands in surrender and smirks.“I come in peace. I have come in peace, Sam.” He says and my father releases him. There are other people in the lobby and most of them seem to be looking at us.“Let&r
