Chapter Eight

Elaine.

The soft rays of the morning sun shone into the dining room as everybody ate quietly. Unlike yesterday's atmosphere, today's was calm and almost peaceful. This looked like a beautiful setting but for one thing, Zack wasn't at the table. 

It was seven in the morning and being a Saturday, where could he have possibly gone?  

I felt like I was in a den of lions and Zack's mother was more than looking forward to tearing me from limb to limb. Didn't Zack understand that he was leaving me in a vulnerable position!?

Everyone but me, seemed to be at ease. I watched everybody eat while I took a sip of my coffee every now and then. Levi kept stealing glances in my direction and it made the fact that the seat beside me was empty more obvious. 

Taking a gulp of my coffee, I tried to swallow down my irritation and looked over my shoulder at the door.
