Riah, the former queen of Barrmount stared at the crackling fire in front of her. Smoke rose from the giant pyre and touched the darkened sky. She sported a calm smile despite the pain in her heart.
One of the bodies in the pyre belonged to her mate, Riordan. The shallow breaths didn’t ease the stress on her lungs. Dark spots danced in her vision. Losing a bonded mate did that to a person. It weakened them, causing them to be a shell of who they were once. Her body swayed with weakness.

“Useless Nymph!” Freya simmered with fury. “You can’t even bring yourself to finish a simple task.” Flora’s thin lips trembled. Her rosy eyes, wide and full of tears stared at the furious lycan as she huddled in the corner where she was thrown earlier. She dared not to avert the gaze to check her aching shoulder. Cradled in a warm embrace, she let her tears fall. The hands that carried her dropped her softly on a flowerbed.

“Once more.” Aluxious flexed his arms as he beckoned Daryn. They spared with each other just like the old times.
