KIARA’S POV
I woke up to the sweet twittering of birds. The cool breeze blew in through the open window carrying the faint smell of wildflowers. The sunlight that streamed in through the thick foliage was enough to light up the room but didn’t hurt.
The packhouse was very homey and comfortable. It wasn’t loaded with electronics like the mansion in the city. It was airier and simply furnished. I fell in love with it the moment we reached the house. If I had a choice, I would spend the rest of my life here.
The clattering of the dishes and the faint screeching of wheels drew my attention to the door. I couldn't restrain the smile that formed on my face on seeing Kevin in an apron and hat.
My stomach rumbled as the aroma of pancakes tickled my nose. How did he know that it was my favorite?
He looked so adorable holding out the fork with a piece of pancake that I forgot to push it away. I let him feed the pancake as
KEVIN’S POV I placed the log of wood on the large boulder and split it with one swift swing. I tried to focus on the task but my mind kept drifting to Kiara.God knows how she was doing in that musty dungeon. Dad wanted to keep her in the cell till she agreed to shift. When I protested, he commanded me to chop the wood.Shaking my head, I placed another branch on the boulder and hacked it with the heavy axe. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I continued to chop the wood in the scorching sun.In a while, the urge to keep chopping subsided. Alpha must have released me from his command. Now, I was not in a mood to give up. I continued to chop the firewood one after the other.“Kevin, Alpha has released you from his command.” Collin’s voice sounded behind me. Ignoring him, I kept on wielding my axe.“Kevin, you must not exert yourself like this. Have some water.” He tried again, thrusting a
KIARA’S POVI paced up and down the cell of the dungeon trying to wrap my head around what had happened. Cami had brought food and water for me.Once inside the cell, Cami threw the food and water on the floor and wrapped herself with the silver chains. I had been so stunned by her actions that I couldn’t react. That b*** wasn’t as simple as she presented herself to be. She was definitely trying to frame me. I had to talk to Kevin about this. I did want Kevin to hate me and stay away from me. But, that doesn’t mean I would let someone walk over me.Kevin and mom were too disturbed to lock the door of the cell behind them. So, I just walked out of the dungeon. The moon was shining high in the sky. The cool breeze caressed my face. All of a sudden I realised that I hadn’t sent the daily.Taking out my phone, I clicked a few pictures of the dungeon. My head was buried in my phone and I didn’t
KEVIN’S POV “Kevin… Kevin… are you listening to me?” My father’s booming voice brought me back to reality.“Sorry Alpha… I just…” I was about to say zoned out but father interrupted me.“I know that you are not feeling that well but this is important…” He urged in a stern yet urgent voice.“You have my undivided attention Alpha…” I said, sitting up straight. My father glanced at Collins and nodded his head. Collins produced a large golden box. A five-petalled lily was engraved on the lid. The large ruby in the center dazzled in the sunlight.“Today I have invited the Alphas of the other four packs in Auroville for a meeting. We will invite them for the unification ceremony and also send a secret warning…”“But, dad…”“I know that you need more time to convince Kiara.
KIARA’S POV The packhouse seemed eerily quiet when I returned after handing the original box to Nivaan. I had this weird feeling that something was not right.Maybe it was a gut feeling or something… The hair on my back stood and my heart pounded against my ribs…I decided to take a tour of the entire house to make sure everything was alright. Everything seemed okay on the surface but the nagging feeling of danger persisted. In the end, I decided to tour the house once more. There was no one else in the house and it didn’t hurt to be a little extra cautious. My footsteps sounded in the empty halls as I went around, looking in every nook and corner. When I was in the storeroom, I was assaulted by a distinct scent of jasmines. Wasn’t Jasmine Risha’s favorite perfume?Shaking my head, I walked into the backyard. Probably I was just overthinking. A sparkle caught my attention near the bushe
KIARA’S POV Risha’s terrified face kept flashing in my mind as I dragged myself to the lake. I should have stayed back for her but I couldn’t let Nivaan down either.“Are you hurt?” Nivaan’s anxious voice sounded drawing me out of the trance.Sensing his gaze on my mouth, my hands flew to my lips reflexively. “Oh, this… this is not mine…”“What exactly did you do sis?” Nivaan asked wiping my mouth with his handkerchief. My heart felt heavy when I thought about killing those two men. I didn’t want to talk about it at present. Clearing my throat I said, “I will tell you all about it later on. We must focus on saving mom and dad…”“Yes, mom is alone at the cottage. It will be a good time to talk to her.” Valence said appearing suddenly.I cupped my mouth and exhaled deeply. This had to work. Nivaan grasped my h
KEVIN’S POV I paced up and down the entrance of the packhouse. The trees cast dark shadows in the moonlight. Dad had taken over the investigation of those two strangers. He was hosting an emergency meeting near the lake while Cami was taking care of Risha. I didn’t have the courage to face either my father or my baby sister. So, here I was wearing the tiles with my pacing.Kiara hadn’t returned yet. I didn’t know if I wanted her to come back. I was afraid that I couldn’t handle the truth. The faint sound of footsteps drew my attention to the path. Kiara looked stunning in the leather jacket and jeans. Her long hair waved in the soft breeze. The soft moonlight illuminated her face making her look like an angel who had descended from heaven. How could someone with such an innocent face, do something so heinous? She came to a halt right in front of me. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something. T
KEVIN’S POV I gazed with a blank expression as the water broke into ripples every time I threw a stone into it. Kiara’s memories were just like these stones, each time they hit, they disturbed the stillness of my mind.It was six months since I rejected her yet the hollowness that I felt in my chest hadn’t reduced even a bit. It was like my heart and soul had left with her.“Kevin…” My father’s voice sounded as he sat beside me.I knew why he had come for. My instant impulse was to bolt out of this place but I forced myself to remain seated on the rough boulder.“The number of attacks has been on the rise. Four members of our pack died in an ambush yesterday…”My hands curled into a fist. Drawing in a long breath, I turned to face my father, “I know where you are going with this… but I am sorry, I can’t take Cami as my Luna…&
Kevin’s POV My legs swayed slightly as I walked unstably along the path. The slight buzzy sensation numbed the pain made the memories bleary. It didn’t hurt that much now. I took another swig from the bottle in my hand; hissing slightly as the liquid burned my throat. My legs swayed and the trees around me started spinning round and round. I grasped a nearby branch in an attempt to regain balance but I fell anyway. I wanted to get up and go to my house, to my pack but my legs felt like they weighed a ton. Before another thought could pass through my mind, I had fallen asleep on the muddy ground. I was jolted awake by an ear-piercing scream. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up trying to get my bearings. The faint light of the sun had just kissed the earth and everything was bathed in a red hue. F***! I had fallen asleep in the midst of a forest. Before I could berate myself further, my attention was drawn by a loud cry, “Help! Is somebod
