Chapter 61: Veterans Day

The one good thing about Mondays is that there is only one each week. – Tank

Monday rolled around and Evie returned to school. When she was asked why she had been out all week, she simply said that it was due to family obligations. It was approaching Veteran’s Day and as always, she told her students to interview a veteran or a veterans’ family member. On Friday, they were to turn in their findings and discuss it. During her last class, she was looking through the papers and discovered one missing. One that was never missing.

“Miss Lowery, have you done your interview?”

“Not yet.” Priscilla answered from the back where her cousin sat playing with her hair.

“It’s due at the end of class today.”

“Yes, ma’am. How long did you serve?”

Evie smiled at the girl. “Two years with the Texas National Guard.”

“What was your rank?”

“Lieutenant. I was in intelligence. No, I cannot tell you a lot of what I did.”

“Would you go back?”
