CHAPTER 57

“Toys in the box,” he bargained, holding the packet up where she couldn’t reach it.

Milka pouted.

“Nope.” He shook his head. “Put some away. I’ll help you. Here.” He threw the candy in my lap and wrestled Milka to the floor.

She giggled loudly followed by a shriek when he tickled her sides. My lips twitched in amusement. I licked my lips to hide it but failed. Damn, it was not tidying, but she was on cloud nine.

“Dadda, no, no, no,” Milka shrieked through her high-pitched laughs.

“Yeah, Dadda, thought you were tidying?”

Conor stopped and looked up at me. “Eh, I prefer the fun stuff.”

“You’re not getting the candy until you pick up.” I crossed my arms, the packet in my hand.

Conor grabbed two toys. He handed one to Milka and they both chunked them in the direction of the toy box. “There,” he said. “Picked up.”

“Honestly? That’s your idea of tidying?”

“Yep. Now give me the candy.” He gets on all fours and makes a swipe for it.

I got up and skipped away, dangling the candy over my head.
