57. A distraction

I stared at Carlo. He stared at me.

We were silent for a few seconds as we stared blankly at each other. I was about to speak, wanting to tell him to make it quick so I could get the problem over with when his eyes went wide and his mouth fell open.

"You think—" he stopped short, looking around to see if anyone was close by. No one was. "You think he ratted you out?"

My tongue poked the inside of my cheek in annoyance. I took a fistful of his shirt again, bringing my face closer to his. "Carlo," I said slowly and watched him gulp, "I am this close to bashing your head against this wall if you don't tell me who prompted your phone call."

"Chris!" He blurted out.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion at first. "Chris?"

"The guy who tripped Jordan and made her leave the first time. You shot him, remember?"

It clicked immediately. I slowly let go of Carlo's shirt, stumbling back as I tried to remember why and when he joined our mafia.

"What the fuck is going on here?"
