Our shoes clapped against the marble floor when we entered the hall in Al Naeem’s manor. They were our neighboring state’s royals and had helped a lot during and after The Great Sand War.

Most royals and sheikhs had arrived for the council meeting, and a long circular table was placed under the chandelier with various delicacies of sweets, curries, breads, cakes and golden goblets full of arak.

“It looks more like a party than a meeting,” I said under my breath.

“We have to hold it out for an hour,” Zain chuckled and looked at me. “Think you can do it?”

I shook my head, “I bet five hundred golden coins that Sheikh of Al Naeem will start a fight before the main dish is served.”

He hummed and looked at the said sheikh, who was hollering and drinking straight from the bottle. “What about the Sayyida? I believe she is missing, and the questions about her affair will break the main conflict before we get seated.”
