I woke up to someone knocking on the door. A whine tore out of my lips as I sleepily opened the door, slowly blinking at Hayden, who looked way better than me, fresh out of the shower holding a plate of pancakes.

“Didn’t you clean up your wounds?” He walked straight in and before I could utter anything, he held my hand and made me sit on the bed. I slowly rubbed the sleep from my eyes with a fist when he came back from the washroom, holding a medical kit.

“You might get an infection if you don’t clean your wounds, Zara,” he scolded me, his brows furrowing and blue eyes roving over my face. “Tsk, such a Princess.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing. It wasn’t an insult.”

“It sure felt like it.”

I looked away from him when he leaned closer, gently dabbing away the dried blood from my temple. “I’m sorry,” he said after a long silence, applying ointment and a small bandage on the cut on my cheekbone. I relished in the warm press of the pads of his fingers, the soft caress o
