Those Three Years

Percival watched the car drive away, feeling a sudden emptiness inside. How could someone have eyes so similar to hers? The way she looked at him was exactly like in his dreams, and just thinking about it brought him immense pain.

Oliver ran up to him, out of breath. “Boss, what’s up?”

Percival murmured, “I just saw Eulalia.”

Oliver paused, thinking back to the scene. “You mean the woman who just got in the elevator was Eulalia?”

Percival didn’t reply, but his silence was confirmation enough.

The woman who got in the elevator was wearing a mask that covered her face entirely, showing only her eyes. Oliver couldn’t understand how Percival recognized her as Eulalia.

Besides, Eulalia had died three years ago, burned alive on a snowy Christmas day. They all knew that.

“Boss, she’s been dead for three years. There’s no way you saw her.”
