A needle in the neck won't kill you, it just hurts for a bit. Eulalia gripped the needle like it was a knife and slashed downward along the artery, drawing blood.

Percival grunted. He wasn't afraid of dying; he was afraid Eulalia wouldn't want him. He gently bit Eulalia's lip, then let her go. He didn't bother wiping the blood from his neck but instead reached back to grab Eulalia's trembling hand. "Your hand's stained."

She looked at her fingers, veins standing out against her pale skin, fingertips sticky with blood. Her eyes sparkled, and a tear slid down her cheek, hanging there, shimmering and fragile.

Eulalia cried, but a vicious smile played on her lips. She wasn't scared or sad; she felt thrilled because she finally managed to hurt this man, though it was nothing compared to the pain she had endured.

Percival wiped the tear from her face. "Eulalia, just like today, I'll be waiting for you to kill me. If you can."
