'Am I your first wife, Edward?' - The question she asked stopped my breath for a moment. Her gaze was filled with hesitance and fear.

This question couldn't come all of a sudden, must something have happened if I'm not wrong, it happened when Mom summoned her for a talk.

As much as I don't like both my wife and mother under the same roof, I couldn't ask them to leave either. They are my parents after all.
