Chapter 34 The Meeting of In-laws

Gu Baisheng kept looking at Hu Hui and Song Shuang.

Song Shuang felt it and glared at her.

Gu Baisheng's lips twitched, and she stopped looking at him immediately.

At the same time, the door was pushed open. A cold and condescending female voice came, "Your daughter is dead. How long do you plan to force my son to take care of you?"

After hearing this,

the three people in the ward froze and then looked at her with different looks.

Lin Fengya had arrived at the ward.

Nobody knew how long she had been listening to their conversation.

They could only see that the servant behind Lin Fengya was carrying a delicate lunch box and following the rich lady obediently.

Lin Fengya was still in her favorite cheongsam with a beautiful cashmere fringed shawl covering her dress.

She stared at Hu Hui in an elegant and distant way.

After seeing Lin Fengya, Hu Hui didn't change her look so much. But Gu Baisheng could tell that there was a coldness in her mother's eyes.

Apparently, they two couldn't get along when they met each other.

Seven years ago, when Song Shuang insisted on marrying Gu Baisheng, the Song Family was cold to Hu Hui.

After Gu Baisheng married Song Shuang, the two families didn't meet each other unless necessary.

The marriage between a normal family and a powerful family always made people feel that the latter was beyond the former's reach.

But Hu Hui never felt so about her daughter and Song Shuang's marriage.

On the contrary, she hated this family from the bottom of her heart.

And she tried not to see Song Shuang either.

The two families looked down upon each other, so it was natural that their meetings were always unpeaceful.

Lin Fengya was so condescending.

Hu Hui treated her as an ornament and didn't bother to even look at her, let alone to butter up her.

Gu Baisheng suddenly felt a bit nervous.

She was worried that they might start a quarrel.

But what you were worried about would definitely happen to you.

Hu Hui was not a pushover. It was impossible for her not to talk back when Lin Fengya poured salt on her wound.

"I've never forced your son to take care of me. He does so because he feels guilty."

Song Shuang didn't refute it.

Gu Baisheng became more curious.

What made Song Shuang feel guilty?

Was she talking about Gu Baisheng getting killed in the earthquake?

It was impossible. Song Shuang had nothing to do with Gu Baisheng's death.

Lin Fengya looked displeased, "Why did you bring it up again? My son has done enough for your daughter!"

"Has done enough?" Hu Hui looked at Lin Fengya's face coldly. She felt it ridiculous, "My daughter wouldn't have died if it hadn't been for him. My daughter's life would be much easier!"

Hu Hui voice was harsh. It seemed that her long-time anger finally burst forth. And she glared at Lin Fengya, "Your son is your baby, so is my daughter to me. How could he..."

"Enough! Shut up!" Lin Fengya was cut to the quick, so she interrupted Hu Hui angrily. She was worried that what Hu Hui was about to say would ruin the reputation of the Song Family.

Hu Hui held back what she planned to say when she realized that Bai Shengsheng was here.

Lin Fengya lifted up her hand to touch her painful temple, and then she told the servant, "Mrs. Fei, put the breakfast down and wait for me outside the hospital."

On hearing it, the servant went into the ward and put the lunch box down.

Lin Fengya felt relieved and talked to Hu Hui, "Let's talk outside."

Gu Baisheng realized that between the two people...

No, it was actually between the two families. The two families were intertwined with each other by a dark secret that Gu Baisheng had no idea of.

Song Shuang felt guilty about Gu Baisheng.

And the guilt made the whole Song Family have no courage to face Hu Hui.

That explained why Hu Hui despised such a rich and powerful family.

And because of the guilt, Song Shuang used his obedience and respect to make up to Hu Hui.

Although Hu Hui appeared to be peaceful with her son-in-law, in fact, she resented or even hated him.

It could be proven by Hu Hui and Lin Fengya's argument.

As Hu Hui's daughter, she knew her mother's personality.

Her mother wouldn't hate someone so much for no reason, especially someone as tactic and reliable as Song Shuang.

She remembered when she was a student, they bumped into Song Shuang when they did their new year shopping. Song Shuang greeted them.

Her mother seemed to like Song Shuang a lot and wished her to marry a boy like him.

But when she got pregnant and really married Song Shuang,

Her mother didn't seem to like the son-in-law so much.

They just maintained the semblance of peace.

She once thought that it was because that she was pregnant with another man's child, and it made her mother feel awkward. And her mother kept a distance from him on purpose.

But now, she knew it was so far from the truth.

She was curious what the secret was. So she wanted to eavesdrop on their conversation when they agreed to talk outside.

She couldn't resist the temptation. After all, it had something to do with her.

But when she was about to sneak out, Song Shuang seemed to find out her intention and said, "Take the breakfast out of the lunch box."

"What?" She quickly caught on and took his breakfast, "Oh."

The lunch box had three layers with Beicheng's specialties in it.

There were a piece of date cake and pickles on the first layer.

Song Shuang liked the pickle. It was the starter of Gu Baisheng's breakfast when she was pregnant. She lost her appetite for breakfast, so Song Shuang would eat some pickle himself to seduce her to try it too.

And day by day, Song Shuang started to like it somehow.

There were two steamed buns and a deep-fried dough stick on the second layer.

There was a bowl of fresh bean juice on the third layer.

Gu Baisheng didn't have breakfast either. When she was taking the food out of the lunch box, she also thought to herself.

The Song Family didn't recognize her as Song Shuang's wife, and they only prepared the breakfast for one person.

They didn't even think about Song Shuang's new wife who had been taking care of him for the whole night.

"This looks yummy. Enjoy your breakfast now! I have to go out."

Gu Baisheng put the breakfast on the little bed table.

Song Shuang glanced at Gu Baisheng and frowned.

Gu Baisheng thought it was a sign of contempt.

Unexpectedly, Song Shuang said, "I saw you buy some plain porridge. Give it to me. I can't eat this one."

"You can't eat that one?" Gu Baisheng tried not to laugh, "We can switch then. You have the plain porridge, and I have the other one."

Her stomach made a sound when she was talking.

Song Shuang glanced at her in contempt and didn't bother to talk to her.

Gu Baisheng put the plain porridge in front of Song Shuang and picked up a steamed bun. When she was about to eat, she suddenly thought of something, so she tore the steamed bun in half, took out the stuffing, and placed it on her own plate. Then she handed the bun skin to him and put half of the pickle into his plate, "Eat something. Or your mother will be so mad at me if she knows that I eat all the food."

"No." Song Shuang replied coldly.

Gu Baisheng ignored him. She put the pickle into her mouth and ate it with the bun. The delicious food made her squint her eyes.

Song Shuang looked down when he saw the way she picked up the pickle.

Outside the ward.

Hu Hui and Lin Fengya looked at each other.

Lin Fengya held one hand with her other hand. She looked a bit embarrassed, "It's been seven years. It's the past. Should a person be punished by his one mistake for his whole life?"

"Shouldn't he?"

Hu Hui glared at Lin Fengya with her sharp eyes, "When my daughter married your son, everyone said that she was lucky and my family was lucky. But do you really think my daughter cares about your money? Do you really think my family cares?"

Lin Fengya looked so pale after hearing it.

Hu Hui gasped and tried hard to control herself, "Your son destroyed my daughter's life. My daughter didn't have a happy day in the past few years. My daughter wouldn't have kept the child if it hadn't been for your son. And she didn't have to marry your son!"

"But even if your daughter hadn't married my son, she would also insist on keeping the child. How happy she would be if she were a single mother?"

"It's hard to be a single mother, but at least my grandson wouldn't die. Don't you forget how he died?"

Hu Hui's words nearly destroyed Lin Fengya. And Lin Fengya couldn't refute her.

Lin Fengya lost her usual composure.

"That kid... I don't want him to die either..."

"So your family owes my family two lives."

Hu Hui stood straight and didn't show any weakness in front of Lin Fengya.

She appeared to be stronger and more assertive than Lin Fengya.

Lin Fengya was shaking, "They were my family members too."

"I don't want to keep talking about it on the premise that your family stops disturbing his marriage life this time."

Lin Fengya was confused and looked at Hu Hui, "His marriage life this time?"

"Your son married Miss Bai. She is another girl from a normal family. But you'd better not play games like last time, or I'll make your and your son's life much harder."

Lin Fengya frowned.

Hu Hui didn't want to waste her time on the conversation, so she turned around and left.

Lin Fengya looked at Hu Hui's back. She rolled her eyes thoughtfully.

What was the relationship between Bai Shengsheng and Hu Hui?
