Chapter 35 My Mother-in-law Asked Me to Take Care of You

Gu Baisheng didn't know whether Song Shuang kept her busy after dinner intentionally or unintentionally.

She didn't find a chance to eavesdrop on Hu Hui and Lin Fengya's conversation.

After she got everything done, she saw Hu Hui coming in with one hand on her temple and the other pushing the door.

"You're back, Auntie Hu."

Gu Baisheng welcomed her.

Hu Hui nodded.

Song Shuang looked at her too, "Don't take what my mother said too seriously."

Hu Hui nodded and had no intention to continue the conversation.

On the contrary, she looked at Gu Baisheng deeply, "How have you been lately? How's your injury?"

Gu Baisheng felt flattered when Hu Hui showed her concern, so she hurried to say, "My injury is fine, and I'm doing well. I didn't manage to visit you in the hospital because I was too busy with my job. Please forgive me."

Her excuse of being too busy with her job confirmed what Song Shuang and Qu Xiaobo said.

Hu Hui nodded and felt relieved.

Then Hu Hui took up her hand and held it in hers. She said, "Please remember what I said."

"What?"

Gu Baisheng was a bit awkward, "What did you say?"

Hu Hui shook her head and repeated her words, "Now Song Shuang is injured. You have to stay with him to look after him."

"Well..."

Gu Baisheng turned around to look at Song Shuang awkwardly.

Actually, it was up to Song Shuang whether she could stay with him.

She couldn't decide it even if she wanted to.

She could move in unless Song Shuang agreed to live with her.

"I'll live with her at Jinshayuan for a while after I get out of the hospital."

Song Shuang said.

Gu Baisheng was shocked at his reply.

But Song Shuang didn't show any emotions.

Gu Baisheng dared not imagine living with Song Shuang under the same roof.

Hu Hui was pleased with Song Shuang's answer.

After hearing Song Shuang's words, she held Gu Baisheng's hand and pulled her aside. She whispered to Gu Baisheng like a mother, "Miss Bai, can I call you Shengsheng?"

Gu Baisheng was shocked, "Isn't that how you call Miss Gu?"

As Gu Baisheng's mother, Hu Hui called her Shengsheng all the time.

Now Hu Hui wanted to call her "Shengsheng".

It had deep meaning behind the simple name.

"I want to treat you as my daughter, Miss Bai."

There were deep wrinkles around Hu Hui's eyes.

It was because of aging. But the wrinkles became deeper after Gu Baisheng passed away.

It was clear that Hu Hui suffered a lot from losing her daughter.

Gu Baisheng felt sorry for her mother too, so she nodded quickly, "Thank you! If you don't mind, I'm your daughter from now on."

Hu Hui was moved, and she almost wept when she looked at Gu Baisheng's face. She said in a shaky voice, "You must live a good life for Shengsheng. Song Shuang will protect you."

Gu Baisheng could still understand the first half of the sentence.

But the second half made her confused.

What did she mean by "Song Shuang will protect you"?

Gu Baisheng was hugged by Hu Hui softly. Then she turned around to look at Song Shuang who was on the sickbed.

She noticed that Song Shuang looked at her in a weird way.

...

Lin Fengya and Song Zhaoyang visited Song Shuang frequently during his stay at the hospital.

Song Zhaoyang came once a day, and Lin Fengya, as Song Shuang's mother, came twice a day.

Clearly, Song Zhaoyang and Lin Fengya really cared about their son.

But Lin Fengya would only stay for a short while before she left because she despised the cheap daughter-in-law so much.

Song Zhaoyang didn't hide his dislike for her at all.

Although he didn't offer her a check to ask her to leave like Lin Fengya did, in his eyes, you could clearly tell that he didn't recognize this daughter-in-law.

Gu Baisheng was used to it, and she knew the time when they would usually show up.

Before they two arrived, she would leave in case not to make everyone unhappy.

One day,

Gu Baisheng ate out for lunch. Before she came into the ward, she could hear Lin Fengya and Song Shuang's voices through the door.

"Your father seems to hide something away from me."

Song Shuang didn't say a word.

Lin Fengya sighed and said, "You know that you're our only son. You're not a little boy now, and your dad is getting old. Don't you consider coming back and helping us?"

Song Shuang replied calmly, "I can't quit my job now."

"It's nice to be a doctor for you now, but do you really want to be a doctor for your life?"

"Is that a bad thing?"

Song Shuang asked her.

Lin Fengya became impatient, "You went to a medical school for that woman. How long do you plan to waste your time on this? Gu Baisheng and..."

"Enough, mom." Song Shuang disrupted it coldly and said, "It's your time to go to the club."

Lin Fengya knew that her son wanted to send her away, but she didn't want to give up, "Shuang, Gu Baisheng and the child are dead now. You can marry another woman you like and have a healthy and cute baby. Your life is still long."

"You don't have to tell me that. I understand."

Song Shuang said coldly.

Lin Fengya became silent.

Apparently, the tension was growing between them.

Gu Baisheng stopped at the door. She knew that Lin Fengya was still trying to persuade her son when she found Lin Fengya was there.

But Song Shuang couldn't listen to anything now, so she lifted up her hand and coughed, "Well, Shuang?"

Lin Fengya heard her voice and shook her head in contempt.

She looked at her son, "I'll visit you tomorrow. Think about it."

Song Shuang didn't respond.

Lin Fengya then stood up to leave.

She passed Gu Baisheng by on her way out.

Gu Baisheng stopped and greeted Lin Fengya politely.

But Lin Fengya didn't look at her and ignored her greeting.

Gu Baisheng was a bit awkward.

After Lin Fengya left, Gu Baisheng closed the door and asked Song Shuang, "Do you feel better today?"

"I can discharge from hospital really soon."

He lifted his hands and kneaded his eyebrows.

He couldn't stand what his mom told him every day.

"Your mother asked you to kick me out of the Song Family again?"

Gu Baisheng joked and poured him a glass of water.

Song Shuang looked at the water but didn't take it.

He didn't appear to cooperate with her.

Gu Baisheng was used to it and put the water back on the table again.

And then she drank half glass of water from her cup.

Song Shuang realized that she was panting, and there were beads of sweat in the sideburns. His eyes darkened for a moment, "What makes you so long?"

Gu Baisheng was a bit surprised, "Is there anything you want to see me about?"

Usually, Song Shuang wished not to see her for the whole day, but today he suddenly cared about her.

Gu Baisheng found it weird.

Song Shuang glanced at her with his handsome eyes, "You're so good at making trouble. What if you cause any trouble again?"

Gu Baisheng twitched her lips on hearing this. She felt someone grabbed her throat, and she couldn't refute it.

After she married him, she indeed caused him so much trouble.

She felt bad enough solely because he got hurt from protecting her.

But when she recalled that Song Shuang held her so tight in his arms to protect her, she felt confused.

She blinked her eyes and asked, "Dr. Song?"

Song Shuang looked at her, frowning.

He looked displeased.

Gu Baisheng asked him, "Why did you protect me when we were at Jinshayuan?"

Song Shuang froze for a while when he heard this question, then he answered without any emotion, "It'll be a huge problem if someone gets killed."

"What?"

Gu Baisheng didn't get it.

Song Shuang continued, "My mother-in-law asked me to take care of you."

After hearing it, Gu Baisheng suddenly understood it.

He felt guilty about Hu Hui.

So everything Hu Hui asked him to do and everyone she asked him to take care of, he would never let them die, no matter how much he hated them.

Gu Baisheng thought to herself.

Although Song Shuang appeared to be cold-hearted, he was actually not a bad person.

If so, it would be less scary to live with him under the same roof.

He would only scold her.

Gu Baisheng seized this opportunity. She pulled a chair and sat next to Song Shuang's sickbed. And she tried to negotiate with him, "Auntie Hu asked you to take care of you. Is it possible that you treat me a little better?"

Song Shuang looked at her in contempt, despising her for pushing her luck.

Gu Baisheng waved her hand and tried to comfort him, "I'm not asking you to be nice to me. At least you should stop calling me b*tch. I didn't do..."

"Get lost."

Gu Baisheng didn't even finish her words.

Song Shuang stopped her impolitely.

He made Gu Baisheng so angry.

The Song Family's luxurious car was driving away from the hospital.

Lin Fengya didn't feel at ease. She was kneading her temple while talking to her phone, "I think Bai Muwan, the eldest daughter of the Bai Family, is great."

The voice on the other side of the phone replied coldly, "You wish. This young lady was just proposed by the son of the Lu Family."

Lin Fengya was unhappy, "It was all your fault. You should plan for Shuang earlier. If our family can marry the Bai Family, it'll be so helpful for Shuang's future."

Song Zhaoyang remained silent.

Obviously, Lin Fengya was mad.

Song Zhaoyang then thought carefully and said, "The Bai Family has two daughters. Bai Qiong, the younger one, is still single."

"Bai Qiong..." Lin Fengya didn't seem to like this girl.

Song Zhaoyang said, "You can set them up after Shuang discharges from hospital. I think she's nice too. They would be a perfect match."
