Chapter 36 You Want to Paralyze Me

Song Shuang was seriously injured, but staying in hospital was always not as comfortable as staying at home.

Song Shuang was discharged from the hospital when he was almost recovered.

On that day, Hu Hui and Lin Fengya showed up.

When Song Shuang said that he would live at Jinshayuan, Lin Fengya was a bit surprised and asked, "Don't you always live at Haoting?"

Haoting was the home purchased for Song Shuang and Gu Baisheng's marriage. It had been around eight years since Song Shuang first moved in.

After all, Song Shuang got married seven years ago.

And he moved in half a year before the wedding.

Song Shuang replied carelessly, "It's too far away from the hospital."

Lin Fengya knew that it was only his son's excuse.

He had been living at Haoting with Gu Baisheng for more than seven years, even though it was far away from Second Hospital.

Now Gu Baisheng was dead. It was a lie to use it as an excuse.

It all came down to what Hu Hui told him.

Lin Fengya was a bit unhappy. He was his son, but now it seemed that he was Hu Hui's.

Hu Hui's words worked better than hers to her son.

She had no idea how Hu Hui managed to control her son.

Gu Baisheng saw the tension between Hu Hui and Lin Fengya, so she tried to be unnoticeable and kept silent.

When she was on her way to Jinshayuan,

she asked Song Shuang, "Do you have any luggage? I can help you to move in."

Gu Baisheng wanted to help Song Shuang to carry his luggage out of kindness to take care of the injured.

But Song Shuang was resting with his eyes closed and replied coldly, "No need. I won't stay for long."

Gu Baisheng was a little shocked on hearing this.

Then she realized that Song Shuang had no feelings for her, so he agreed to move in solely because Hu Hui asked him to.

But he wouldn't let him suffer for too long.

A smart person like him would soon find a way to move out.

When she thought about it,

she didn't bother to care about his move.

When Lin Fengya saw his son's car leave, she looked at Hu Hui and said defiantly, "Don't you think you've gone too far?"

Hu Hui was more a lady than her, "How?"

"You asked my son to marry a random woman, and now you force them to live together?"

Hu Hui was about to say something.

Lin Fengya thought she was going to argue, so before she started, Lin Fengya said, "I know you asked him! My son is not a freakish man, so he won't be willing to live with this woman."

"Yes, I forced him to live with Bai Shengsheng."

Hu Hui told her frankly and showed no intention to lie.

Her honesty made Lin Fengya speechless.

Hu Hui looked at Lin Fengya's mad face and said calmly, "If you have the ability, you can ask your son not to live with her."

Lin Fengya was so furious when she looked at Hu Hui's provocative eyes.

She clenched her hands and wished to kill Hu Hui with her sharp eyes.

But Hu Hui couldn't care less about her angry eyes.

She smiled faintly and left calmly.

Mrs. Fei, the servant who was standing behind Lin Fengya, didn't have the heart to see it.

Lin Fengya squinted her eyes and said hatefully, "Mrs. Fei, call the Bai Family later."

Mrs. Fei was hesitant, "Madam, Miss Bai..."

"Do it!"

Lin Fengya said fiercely.

Mrs. Fei dared not say anything.

...

When Gu Baisheng and Song Shuang entered their flat at Jinshayuan, they noticed the decoration had been changed.

The toiletries set in the bathroom now became two.

Now Song Shuang had his own.

And there were more clothes in Song Shuang's side bedroom.

When Gu Baisheng moved in, the main bedroom was empty, so she occupied it.

But now, it appeared to be weird because she was not the hostess.

But the real host could only live in the side bedroom.

"I'll clean up the main bedroom for you."

Gu Baisheng thought it would be better to let Song Shuang sleep in the main bedroom.

Song Shuang answered, "Don't bother."

And he went to the side bedroom to rest after saying it.

Gu Baisheng checked the food in the fridge and planned to cook pigeon soup for him.

Song Shuang took a rest after he entered his room.

He was woken by his ringtone at dusk.

Lin Fengya's gentle voice came through, "Shuang, have you had dinner yet?"

"Not yet."

"I'll let someone..."

"No need." Song Shuang interrupted her before she offered to cook dinner for him.

Lin Fengya sighed when she was refused by her son so quickly, "Your new wife knows nothing about taking care of people."

Shortly after she finished her words,

Gu Baisheng was knocking on the door. She pushed open the door with her shoulder and said to Song Shuang who was on the phone with the tray in her hand, "Does my pigeon soup smell good?"

Song Shuang was speechless.

Lin Fengya, who heard it on the other side of the phone, was silent too.

They stayed silent for a short while.

Song Shuang watched Gu Baisheng walking into the room and putting the food on his table. Meanwhile, he pinched his eyebrow irritably and asked Lin Fengya, "Mom, what do you want to say?"

Gu Baisheng put the pigeon soup on the table and looked at Song Shuang.

Lin Fengya seemed to be talking about what annoyed Song Shuang because his eyes were full of agitation.

"I'll go. Please stop."

Lin Fengya said happily, "I'll wait for you to come the afternoon after tomorrow."

"Yeah."

Song Shuang answered concisely and hung up the phone.

Gu Baisheng handed the spoon to him when she saw him put his phone away, "People say that it's good for your recovery. I cooked it for a long time. Try it."

Song Shuang took the spoon in silence.

Gu Baisheng didn't mind that Song Shuang treated her like his nanny. She watched him take a sip.

Then he frowned.

"Why do you put so many peppercorns in it?"

"Is it numbing?"

Gu Baisheng asked him nervously.

"I can't even taste anything now."

Most people would lose their confidence in cooking when they heard that answer.

But Gu Baisheng was different. She didn't lose her confidence at all.

She even pushed the other bowl here and opened it, "This one is yours. Try this one!"

Song Shuang pushed the one with peppercorns away.

He was still frowning when he tried the other one.

"What about this one?"

"That one was too numbing, so I can't taste anything."

"Eat it up."

Gu Baisheng felt relieved and asked him to hurry up.

Song Shuang looked at her frowning, "I think you do that on purpose."

Gu Baisheng smiled guiltily, "No, don't be silly."

Song Shuang finished half of it and then pushed it away.

Gu Baisheng was about to take it away when she saw him stop.

Song Shuang interrupted, "Leave it here. I can finish it when I wake up at night."

"There's more in the cooker. This one is cold. You can warm up what's left in the cooker."

Gu Baisheng smiled and insisted on taking the cold soup away.

She spent a long time tidying up the kitchen before she took a shower in her bedroom.

Before she went to bed, she searched the employment information online and took notes of it.

Then she went to bed contentedly.

But at midnight, she suddenly dreamt about something.

She dreamed about the time when she got married with Song Shuang. She also dreamed about the time when Song Shuang accompanied her, held her hands, and wiped her perspiration during her delivery.

And she dreamed about the time when she lost her child and slapped Song Shuang after he tried to hold her.

Suddenly, she dreamed about the way Song Shuang looked when he stood in front of the ruins where she was buried.

It was raining.

Song Shuang kneeled on the ground with his full body wet, but he still tried to remove the bricks away from the ruins mechanically.

People were discussing.

"I heard the doctor who got killed is his wife."

"He has been doing this for more than a day. Such a wretch."

"He didn't talk at all, and people couldn't stop him. Has he lost his mind?"

"Probably."

Gu Baisheng tried hard to see Song Shuang's face.

But the picture was blurred by the rain and fog.

Song Shuang's clothes and hair were wet. His straight back bent down sadly.

He continued to remove the bricks despite the fact that his fingernails were broken and bloody.

His beautiful hands were now dirty and wounded.

But he didn't care about it at all. He just kept doing it mechanically.

She felt bad for him and called him, "Song Shuang?"

Song Shuang didn't respond.

She called again, "Song Shuang?"

He seemed to hear it and looked up suddenly with his eyes full of shock, "Shengsheng? Shengsheng, you're still alive?"

"I'm alive..."

She responded.

The earth started to shake with a bump.

The aftershock started again!

"Ah!"

Gu Baisheng sat up from the bed and looked at the cup on the nightstand in alarm with the quilt in her arms.

The water inside the cup didn't move at all.

She suddenly realized that it was a dream.

She gasped violently and wiped away her perspiration.

Then she covered her face with her hands, "It's so freaking terrifying."

She said to herself.

But she didn't notice that a gap in the doorway was filled and the light disappeared with it.

Song Shuang was swallowed by the darkness with the lights off.

He was holding a bow of cold pigeon soup.

It was full of peppercorns.

It didn't seem like properly cooked food for humans.

It was more like a prank.
