Chapter 27: JACE

Dinner was an experience with my parents vying for the top spot. It was fun watching them fight over her attention.

It was also good to see the girl who had freaked out at the grandeur of my home, treat my parents like an old aunt and uncle that she'd known for years. What the fuck happened in that phone call anyway?

She got dad's jokes and shared mom's obsession with coma inducing literature. It was a good fit.

Mom and dad gave me the stamp of approval, which was a kiss to her head from each as they said goodnight and left us for the next hour.

I had half expected it, wanted it, but it was good to have it.

"Your parents are amazing, nothing at all like I expected."

"Oh? What did you expect?" I pulled her down on the couch next to me in the living room. She was so relaxed now that she didn't even bat a lash at all the awards and trophies and shit that lined the walls.
