Chapter 20

Once I saw Charlie, he was in formal attire. He stood by the river while answering a call.

When he saw me, he smiled at me and put a finger in front of his mouth to gesture to me to stay quiet.

I stood awkwardly by his side, waiting for him to finish his call.

“I’m sorry, I had an urgent patient at the hospital, so I had to make you wait.”

Once I lifted my head, I saw Charlie’s gentle smile.

His voice was really special. It had an inexplicable feeling of gentleness.

“It’s fine. Your work is more important.” How could I be more important than the safety of those patients? I was not that insensible.

Later, we chatted while walking.

Charlie could be considered a gentleman. There were often people passing by with their bicycles, and he would always protect me.

My feet started to hurt which made me regret wearing heels out for the walk.

“Why don’t we have a seat there for a while?” Charlie’s gaze stopped at my ankles as he slightly furrowed his brows.

I was surprised in my heart.
