Chapter Seventy Eight

Melina PoV

I still couldn’t wrap my head around what I’d just seen. When I thought I finally understood it, merely becomes stranger.

“Was that science or magic?” I asked myself for the umpteenth time as I took a swig of the drink the barman served me earlier.

I winced gently as the drink burned down my throat on its way to my stomach. It was my third, and it was really helping me fight the cold.

The cold was bearable in the day, but when the sun went down, it began to freeze. And the drink was probably the only thing that was keeping me from freezing. That, and the thick jacket on my back.

“Okay, Mel,” I murmured to myself, “backtrack.”

It was a trick Ramona taught me whenever I was stuck or confused. She would tell me to think back to the beginning, and retrace my step. Retracing my every move from the beginning would help me look back into my memory to see what I missed.
