The doctor is standing off to the side, talking to Chris, when we enter the building. I immediately rush over to her. Selene is running behind me and Chris turns at our approach. I se him grimace as he steps to the side.“How is she?” I ask.“She’s out of surgery. Now, it’s just a waiting game.” The doctor answers.“What happened?”“Part of her lung had collapsed. Even though it healed with her natural healing abilities, it remained weak. However, what we didn’t know is that she had some internal bleeding.”My eyes widen. “Were you able to fix it?”“Yes, Alpha. We did fix it.” She assures me.I breathe a sigh of relief. A weak lung could cause major problems in the future.“There is a but in there, isn’t there?” Selene questions.I tense and wait. Chris POVI glance around and realize that her mother and Toby haven’t made it back in so I make my way over to the doctor. Talon and Katy don’t seem to be here either. I’m not sure when they left or where they went.“Hey, doc. How is she?” I ask, quietly.She glances at me. “I’m not really supposed to talk about it with anyone outside of her parents but since you are the King…” she sighs. “She’s not doing well at all. I walk around to the desk and take a seat, silently watching the witch. When Reginald enters, I wave my hand in the direction of the chairs for him to sit. He and Katrina sit down next to each other. Reginald slightly moves his chair away from her. I suppress the laughter. We don’t trust witches, obviously.“Alright, Katrina. What is this promise that you speak of?” I ask.“When you were just a toddler, I was summoned by your father.” She starts.That surprises me but I keep my face neutral so that she’ll continue.“The night of your coronation I am to give you this potion.” She holds up a bottle of purple liquid. “You need to drink this, in the next fifteen minutes, or it will be too late.”I tilt my head in question. I’m not sure how long I’ve been out but I wake up to sunlight shining through the window. I groan. It feels like I’ve been dropped off a bridge several times over. I try to sit up but I feel lightheaded and lay back down.“Easy there, Chris.” Reginald says.He walks over with a bowl of water and places it on the table. Reaching around the table, he pulls out the decanter pouring two glasses before he comes back to me.“You’re going to need this.” He says.”I know that I do.”“Okay, why?”He chuckles. “Well, you’ve been out for about a day in a half.”My eyes widen. “Rae?”He frowns. “Still in her coma. Rae’s POVI’m not sure what happened after I opened my eyes at the Lake. Toby looked at me strangely as did Erin. Before I could figure it out, Toby took off running. The struggle to keep my eyes open was real. I managed to stay awake long enough to hear someone call Toby ‘young alpha’. What does that mean?I lost consciousness again. This time I know what is happening. I wander around in the dark, for I don’t know how long, looking for the lady that I talked to last time. Mama turns around and offers me a bright smile. “Rae. I’m so glad that you’re okay. I still just can’t believe it. Are you ready to stand up and walk?” She asks.I hesitate for a second and evaluate my body. “I think so.”She smiles again, “Okay, good, let’s get you standing. Oh! I can’t wait to tell your brother! He’s been so worried about you.”She comes over to my bed and start moving my hair away from my face. Once she was satisfied, she offered me a small smile.“Of course, he wanted to be here for you but he had to take care of the horses.” She said as if I wouldn’t understand.“He isn’t the only one worried. Did you know that Toby has been with you almost every day?”Every day? Did she say Toby? Surely, she is mistaken as he has much bigger things to worry about.“Toby?” I ask to confirm my feelings.“Yes.” She looks at me for a second, like she wants to say something, and shakes her head. “Well, you had lots of people come to see how you were. I wake up to a butterfly feeling on my face. The tingles feel so nice that I feel myself slowly leanding towards it. Slowly opening my eyes, I see a pair of beautiful blues that I would recognize from anywhere.He is pushing the hair off of my forehead. Toby. Toby’s POV I have to get out of here. I need to shift and I need to shift fast. I knew that I needed to tell her about Chris before it was too late and I was just prepared to do that.
