Chapter 39: Awkward Silence

I stared blankly at the night sky and realized there were no twinkling stars after a minute. The sky's empty and sad.

I sighed and tried to step onto Tyler’s balcony, I was upset, adrift, and crushed all at once. I thought I’m claiming happiness for a second, I forgot happiness was not for me.

“Your mother, Artha, and I only stayed together for a while. Back then, you were already born and I help your mother raise you for a few months until it was bearable for her to raise you alone.” Each word that Aether says felt like a stab wound to my chest, my eyes welled up and I’m sure I was going to cry in front of him.

Mom already had me? Then who’s my father?

“I didn’t ask for your mother’s back story but she told me your father died before she even know she was pregnant, so she ran away to the forest and build a house here to avoid people’s judging eyes.”

I hummed my nervousness and settled by looking down at my lap, my hair’s blocking my face so it was easy for me to let the tears out
