I CANT HELP IT

David was tracing his way back to his room when he heard sobs emanating from through the wall. He moved closer to the kitchen, placed his left ear on the door, and could hear the sobs getting louder.

He began to land several knocks on the door.

Alerted by the knocks, Sylvia quickly got off the floor and resolved to wipe her tears with the edge of her palms. She then hurried to the sink and began to wash her face while the knocks persisted.

“I’m coming, Mili.” She hurried to the door and pushed it open.

“Master David!” Sylvia called out in surprise.

She quickly moved away from the door with her gaze fixated on the floor.

David cleared his throat loudly and stepped inside the kitchen. He studied the area for a few seconds and darted his gaze back to Sylvia.

“Are you the only one here?”

She quickly lifted her head. “Yes, sir!”

David surveyed her for a moment. Her face was wet and her eyes had traces of red coloration in them. It was evident that she had cleaned up after he knocked on t
