THE BRACELET

“Welcome home!” Eleanor declared with open arms immediately after they alighted from the cab Fred sent to pick them up from the police station.

Sylvia stepped out with a smile. Her hair was tied into a loose knot and her eyes had bags underneath them from lack of sleep. She had been wearing the same clothes for over twenty-four hours. Just like her messy appearance, Eleanor suffered the same fate.

Eleanor grabbed her by the hand and began dragging her into the mansion.

Immediately after they got inside, the guards and some of the servants clearing the lawn hurried toward Sylvia to welcome her. Word had already gone around the mansion that she was innocent.

The servants were soon sympathizing with her, taking turns to shake her. Others gave her soft pats on the back.

“She needs to get some rest,” Eleanor said while trying to pull Sylvia away from the small crowd.

The group surrendered and gave way.
