14. TIME TO LEAVE

It took thirty minutes to get to the club. I could hear the loud music from where I was but all I could see from where we were was the metal service door. The cars were parked in an alley and the guards opened our doors. I walked out, clutching my book.

Slade marched in without even looking my way.

I rushed after, my heels not meant for the pace he had set. We walked into dark passages of the club and took one corner after another until we walked up a pair of stairs. My ears were already throbbing from the loud music. I was not used to it and my eyes were having a hard time adjusting to the dim lights. We went past doors then another set of steps until we walked past empty booths. I could not see much in each booth because Slade was walking so fast.
