I don’t answer him; I recover my steps and continue to run as fast and as quietly as I can. I then hear Hugo in my head and this time I do stumble and end up rolling to a stop on the ground as he growls,
“ANNALISE! RETURN TO ME!”
I can’t stop the scream of pain that leaves my lips as I fight the Alpha command within his tone and then the slave mark on my shoulder burns and sends intense pain streaming through my body at the fact that I am still fighting his outright command. I lean forward, curling in on myself as I continue to fight the command to go back to him, to do as he says.
After a few moments with tears streaming down my cheeks, I struggle to my feet and try to run but with each step I take in the opposite direction to where he is the more pain that gets sent through my body from my slave mark and my heart. With the amount of pain running through me, it’s no wonder

HUGO…I head into the trees and keep going, taking in deep breaths, scenting for rogues until I find a place where their scents are very faint. I slow down and just as I expected, as soon as I do Annalise jumps off of my back, hitting the ground hard and rolling in the dead leaves. I slide to a stop and shift. CHARMINE… I have never seen Randall like he was with Annalise as she tried to leave the King’s convention. CHARMINE… I don’t take much notice of what he continues to say as he grabs me by the hair and then kisses me with the dominance that sets my body on fire. I take a sharp breath in, keeping the scream that he wants to hear from me as he sinks his canines into my mark. Stating his claim over me, I then take a deep breath and even though Annalise doesn’t seem to have her scent, it seems that because he has marked her too, I not only smell Candace fresh on him but her as well. This makes my temper rise once more.
