Chapter 2

Jayden continued " And one more thing, Ava? No one will ever want you. That's a fact, you're so... " He shook his head, leaving his words hanging. He wanted her to imagine the worst thing anyone would ever call her.

" How long has this been happening and why her?? " She asked, still dazed by his revelations.

He took a seat again and crossed one leg over the other leisurely " Hmm... I've been sleeping with her for as long as I can remember, you were just too dumb to see it and as for the second question, she gives the best blowjob so why won't I be with her? I doubt you've ever touched a d*ck " He said and his voice held a mocking tone at the end.

" So you're sleeping with my friend because I refused to have sex with you?! " She asked in a whisper, feeling sick all of a sudden.

" Yup " He answered without giving a f*ck.

Ava blinked back her tears quickly, refusing to break down before this son of a b*tch.

" But I can stop everything if you sleep with me, I don't really love her. She gives me good and satisfying sex, that's all " He said

" We can do this, baby " He begged, staring at her with a sad face.

" Go to hell, I'm breaking up with you " She said, her voice choked with her disgust.

He glared at her when he realized he couldn't get to convince her. His phone rang the second time and he picked. Ava thought it was deliberate.

" Hey babe " He greeted cheerfully and Ava clenched her hands in fists. She wanted to grab her bag and leave but that would only make him glad so she sat there while her boyfriend.... Ex now, talked dirty with her friend. Her head was banging and all she wanted to do was to sleep away her sorrow. He said no one would want her. Was he right though? She asked herself but got no answer.

" Sorry about that, she's quite the freaky one, I know and I LIKE it " He said, laughing and placed his phone beside him.

Ava knew what he did there, he intentionally laid emphasis on the word LIKE.

She thought it was time to go and got up " I'm done with you, son of a b*tch " She spat out and grabbed her bag.

He laughed " I Am Done With You, Sweetheart. Try to change, huh? You might be able to get a man then "

Shoving down the tears threatening to fall, she held her head high and smiled, looking down on him " Jayden Hayes, I'll make you eat your words. You just wait " She swore, vowing to show him how wrong he was.

" Well I wish you good luck, you need it really. I may decide to take you back when you're a woman. But right now, you're a girl " He said, hurting her more.

His words stabbed her heart like a knife but she smiled nevertheless " We shall see about that " and with that, she marched out of his apartment. His laughter accompanied her out of his apartment until she couldn't hear the devilish laughter anymore.

She managed to get to her apartment before allowing the tears to fall like river. She was going to make him regret leaving her, she vowed. She decided to relocate to nurse her heart and have a fresh start.

***************

Two years later, Ava transformed into a stunning beauty who took her job seriously. Of course men came her way but after going on a date with few of them, she found that they didn't have that particular thing she wanted in a man. So she stopped going to such ridiculous dates and focused on herself instead.

On one afternoon after spending half the day cooped up in her apartment, she wanted a drink and got up to go get it in the refrigerator. But to her disappointment, she discovered that she had none left.

" F*ck " escaped through her lips as she realized she'd have to go do some grocery shopping.

" Ugh! " She groaned. She really didn't want to step a foot outside her apartment and had looked forward to spending the day indoors. But now, she'd have to go to that store else she'd starve to death because she had nothing to eat.

With a sigh, Ava swung her legs over the edge of the bed and padded towards her closet. Her refrigerator was nearly barren, showcasing a few wilted vegetables and a solitary carton of milk. The thought of a satisfying meal made her stomach growl in agreement.

Rummaging through her closet, Ava opted for a pair of faded grey sweatpants that were comfortably loose and frayed at the hems. She paired them with a plain white t-shirt, appreciating the casual simplicity of the outfit. After slipping into a pair of well-worn sneakers, she tied her blonde hair into a loose ponytail, a few strands framing her face.

Downstairs, Ava grabbed her phone and keys, stuffing them into her pockets before snatching a canvas tote bag from the coat hook by the door. She didn't bother with makeup; the day didn't warrant such effort. As she stepped outside, the crisp air greeted her, the faint scent of distant rain promising a cool afternoon ahead.

Ava glanced at her phone, noticing an incoming call from Hunter, the persistent guy who had been vying for her attention over the past few months. Just when she thought the day couldn't get any worse. He wasn't even close to her type at all. Plus he talked about sex a lot. The few times she engaged herself in a conversation with him, ninety percent of what he talked about was sex and she hated that. She couldn't have an intellectual conversation without him bringing up sex topic. He bored her really and when she mentioned it to Bella, the new friend she had made at work, Bella had laughed and advised her not to even think of dating Hunter because he seemed like an asshole. She hesitated for a moment, debating whether to answer or let it go to voicemail.

Curiosity got the better of her, and with a resigned sigh, she accepted the call. " Hello? " she greeted, trying to mask her reluctance.

" Hey, Ava! It's Hunter " his voice crackled through the phone, laced with enthusiasm. " How's your day going? "
