The morning sun cast a warm glow through the windows, painting Jayden's apartment in hues of gold. He stood by the window, the phone clasped tightly in his hand, debating whether to call Cassandra. Despite the lingering doubts, a part of him longed to bridge the gap that had grown between them.

With a deep breath, Jayden pressed the familiar numbers, the phone ringing several times before Cassandra's voice greeted him on the other end. His heart raced as he mustered the courage to speak.

" Cass, hey... Can we talk? In person? " Jayden asked, his voice carrying a mix of apprehension and hope.

There was a pause on the line, filled with hesitation and a hint of uncertainty. " I... I don't know, Jay, " Cassandra replied tentatively, her voice tinged with reluctance.

" I understand if you're hesitant, " Jayden began, his voice softening. " But I want to try and work things out. "

After a moment of contemplation, Cassandra relented. " Okay. I'll come over. "
