Holly woke long before Quix did. She ran a hand through his hair and he smiled and leaned into her touch before he snored at her.
True, he needed his rest and a lot of it. She got dressed with a wince. What she wouldn't do for fresh clothes. How could anyone like her when her clothes smelled so?
Quix stayed asleep and she smiled at him once more before she slipped through the door.
As she walked through the frame, her smile faded away. She needed to talk to the others.
Eros was nowhere to be seen, but sitting on a stool beside the door was Dagon. "I want to talk to you," she said in a whisper.
"What's wrong?" Dagon sat forward. "There's something off with you, and it's not just because you've had sex."
Holly's cheeks blazed. "That has nothing to do with it, and that's none of your business in the first place, Dagon."
He shrugged. "I just wanted you to know that it didn't bother me. It hasn't before and it won't in th
"Who are you?" Holly demanded as the thing blinked at her.The sloth took it's time blinking at her. "I'm the one that is going to ask you questions. You just answer them."Holly stared at the animal. Did it think it was threatening her? It was a sloth. It wasn't exactly the most dangerous animal she'd bet. Even Eros in his cabbit form would be able to beat this."You're underestimating me, aren't you?" the sloth questioned with its warm honey-like voice. "I want to ask you about Lust.""Eros?" Holly blinked. That she hadn't expected. And there was something else too. She leaned forward as she inspected the sloth. "You're a girl!""Yes, what is your relationship with Eros?" There was a grunt to her voice now. "Tell me, stop stalling.""Do you like him?" the honey voice was a bit sour now."He's been there for me as long as I can remember. He means a lot to me. Though," she paused and looked away. "I think he's upset with m
The sloth's face was screwed up as if she had a sour lemon stuck into her mouth. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll be retreating, for now. But don't think you've won, any of you." She found Holly with her crimson eyes once more. "And if you do make Lust shed a single tear, I'll follow through the rest of my promise. You can be sure of that."Dagon scowled as the sloth vanished. "I should have known that sloth would be a coward here too." He turned his attention to Holly, completely ignoring Angel. "Are you okay? She didn't hurt you did she?"Holly shook her head. "She was obsessed with Eros. A bit more than I expected. We should keep an eye on him or she might go after him."Angel snorted. "Good riddance."Holly turned toward him. "Excuse me?" she demanded.Angel blinked. "Good riddance to a Sin?" he responded. "Come on, you can't be soft for him too. I dealt with enough of that when it came to Acacia! The sins are evil, you can't trust th
Famine led her to yet another secluded room and took a seat at the desk as he nodded for her to take the normal seat. "I assume you want to know how I found her before you give me any serviceable information?" he questioned.Holly scowled. "You know I do."He nodded once. "When I found her Death and her in that trance she's in. I don't know if she'll awaken, but my guess would be no. I sense a spell on her, and if it doesn't break she might be exposed to an unpleasant truth. I'd wager she's been set up as a trap for us, which is why I'm not allowing you to be alo
Holly didn't care if Famine came after her or not. She turned the idea over and over in her mind like a puzzle cube. If she trusted him, everything could fall apart. Famine had reminded her of one thing, his father was the prince of lies. She got to Ruby's side and relief washed over her, a tangible sense of it as she dropped to her knees. Ruby was up, leaning against Dagon, but up.Ruby smiled as she noticed her. "Hey," she greeted with a weak wave.
Angel looked up as the group walked in. He gave Holly a searching look before he dragged his attention to the one suffering. "What's going on?" he demanded.Eros took it upon himself to answer. A fact which Holly was grateful for. She really didn't want to talk to this cabbit any longer than she had to. She was not a fan of him."The reapers need you to cast a barrier spell. You still can manage that right? Something like the one you used to keep me and the other sins away from Acacia?"
Angel nodded to her as she got Quix to a spot. "Huh, that's interesting," he walked closer to the reaper. "He's not the normal type," he announced. He turned his attention to Atropos and scowled. "What are you doing here?""I've already gone through that with Tydeus, you two really need to stop with all the instant Fate hating. I'm on your side you know."Angel snorted. "I doubt that. You guys are the one that forced her into this in the first place."
"I told you I'm worried more this time than the last," Dagon argued. "What are we going to do?""I don't care what you do, all I know is I'm going to protect her no matter what," Tydeus replied. "That's all that matters, I don't care who it comes down to. She comes first.""Guys?" Holly asked as she knocked on the door. Both whirled at her voice.
Holly told herself that the reason she followed Eros back was that she worried about him. She worried about Quix as well and Ruby, but right now she had to make sure that Eros was taken care of. She's almost lost him, forever. And why? Because of a decision her soul's ancestors had made ages ago that had nothing to do with her. She really hated the gods."I can hear you back there." Eros glanced back at her over his shoulder. The usual sparkle in his eyes was dim. "You can stop following me. I'm fine."
