SLADE POV

"You're cruel, Slade!" Jade wailed. "You promised to take good care of my jewel. How dare you leave her to be killed in such a gruesome way?!"

I let out a deep breath, narrowing my eyes as she launched another attack at me. The purse she flung towards me smacked my chest.

I knew Jade was only expressing her pain; I wished I could make her feel better. But then, I was the one who caused everything that was happening. If hitting me would make her feel better, so be it.

As she prepared to dash towards me with her hands clenched, Alpha Callum held her by the waist, pulling her back to him.

"You need to be calm, Jade. We didn't come here to attack him. Don't you think he might be grieving too?"

"Calm?!" Jade cried out as if the word was forbidden. "How dare you want me to be calm, Callum? She's our only child, for goodness' sake. Our grandchild was forcefully ripped out of her. How can you be unaffected by what is going on?!"
