Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Four

Celeste's POV

"You need a new Wolf, sweetheart. This one will bring sadness to your life," Lilith speaks down to the tiny purple soul in her palm.

She rolls the soul around, poking at the edges, trying to find a way inside, and she becomes frantic in her movements when she finds nothing.

Because there is no seam unsewn, her daughter's soul and that of Aspen have matched so perfectly that I wonder what will happen when she dies.

Will Aspen return to my pool of wolves, or will she die with my granddaughter?

Lilith ends up crying out in frustration. Her angst is loud for anyone to hear, and it’s only then that I note Khai standing against the pool of wolves. His face looked down at the souls below him. But he flinched, looking up, which is what alerted me to his presence.

Lilith screeches out in unhappiness, her face controlling, and instantly, she looks like her father. Looks like Theseus when he, too, doesn’t get his own way.

"It was worth a try," I say, walking into the room to stand
