Chapter 47: ‘Why am I in this mess, Xara?’

*ASA TRINE*

“It’s time for your medicines, sir.”

The nurse that greeted us the next morning was a male nurse who smiled at the two of us, placed the medicine on the side table and instructing me to feed it to Clay then walked out of the door without so much as a retreating glance.

“Seems like you don’t have to worry about those women anymore,” I commented in a hopeful manner as I went to hand him the medicines.

“Are you trying to get rid of me?” he asked, pouting uncharacteristically and looking away at the unnatural expression I shook my head to get rid of its image in my head. I really did wish that he would stop calling me now if those ladies weren’t coming to irritate him.

“Hey, stop making that face!”

I said, still not get used to these gentle and playful expressions that he sent my way after all the glares and scorns. I had obviously seen it on his face before but he had never once looked at me that way and each time he did now, I felt my judgment against him crumbling.
